Our most recent Healthy Tomorrow Award recipient is Julie Pounds who has dedicated over twenty years to assisting Kitsap County seniors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle through the local Chuckwagon Nutrition Program. As the organization’s Executive Director, Julie administers and develops programs that ensure senior citizens ages 60 and better throughout Kitsap County have access to nutritious, hot meals.
Her program serves over 1,500 unduplicated clients annually with a budget of nearly $600,000.
Julie was also instrumental in establishing a program that offers delivered meals to temporarily homebound seniors that are ill or recuperating after a hospital or nursing home stay. This program is funded entirely by donations.

She additionally facilitated the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program that provides qualified low-income seniors with checks usable at local farmers markets during the summer and early fall of each year.
Julie is also a dedicated volunteer with the Kitsap Altrusa Service Club which is well known for its work with such programs as the Literacy Council, the ALIVE shelter for battered women, and Kitsap County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children program.
The Healthy Tomorrow Award is sponsored jointly by Kitsap Credit Union and the Kitsap Sun. It honors individuals and organizations whose contributions significantly improve the quality of life locally, thereby helping the community look forward to a vibrant, healthy future.
